Medical Weight Management

Personalized care to support your health, progress, and long-term goals.

What Is Medical Weight Management?

Medical weight management is a clinician-guided approach to treating overweight and obesity. It combines an evaluation of your health with practical lifestyle guidance, ongoing monitoring, and prescription treatment when appropriate.

Weight can be influenced by biology, medications, sleep, health conditions, and daily habits. Understanding these factors helps your provider develop a plan that fits your needs.

At Truvé Aesthetics, care begins with an in-person evaluation. Together, we review your medical history, previous weight-loss efforts, current concerns, and goals to determine an appropriate path forward.

Benefits of Medical Weight Management

A structured program can help you:

• Understand factors that may be affecting your weight.

• Develop realistic nutrition and activity goals.

• Explore whether prescription treatment is appropriate.

• Monitor progress and address treatment concerns.

• Plan for maintaining your results.

For some people, weight loss can also improve blood pressure, blood sugar, mobility, and other weight-related health concerns. Benefits and results vary.

Why Choose Truvé Aesthetics?

At Truvé Aesthetics, your care begins with listening. We take time to understand your experiences, discuss your priorities, and explain your options without judgment.

Your plan is developed around your health history and clinical needs. Follow-up appointments provide an opportunity to review progress, discuss medication tolerance when applicable, and make thoughtful adjustments.

We emphasize clear patient education so you understand what your treatment involves, what to expect, and when to contact your provider.

What Does the Program Include?

Your care may include:

• An initial medical evaluation and review of previous treatments.

• Nutrition, activity, and lifestyle guidance.

• Laboratory orders when clinically indicated.

• Discussion of prescription options when appropriate.

• Follow-up visits to monitor your response.

• Planning for ongoing weight maintenance.

Medication is one possible part of care. Your evaluation determines which treatment options are appropriate for you.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Adults who would like medical support for overweight or obesity may benefit from an evaluation, especially if previous efforts have been difficult to maintain or weight is affecting their health.

For many prescription weight-management medications, adult eligibility generally includes:

• A body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher; or
• A BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.

BMI is one part of the assessment. Your provider also considers your medical history, current medications, potential risks, and treatment goals. Meeting a BMI threshold does not automatically mean a medication is appropriate.

Understanding Prescription Treatment

Weight-management medications work in different ways. Some reduce hunger or help you feel full sooner, while others reduce fat absorption. They are used alongside nutrition and activity changes.

Your provider will explain the benefits, risks, and instructions for any recommended prescription. Medication selection is individualized, and a specific prescription is not guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first visit is an in-person medical evaluation. We review your health history, medications, previous weight-management approaches, and goals. Your provider discusses appropriate next steps, including whether laboratory testing or prescription treatment is indicated.

Bring your current medication and supplement list and any available recent laboratory results.

Do I have to take medication?

No. An evaluation does not commit you to medication. Your provider will discuss appropriate options and help you understand the proposed plan.

How much weight will I lose?

There is no guaranteed amount. Results depend on your treatment, health, and individual response. Your provider will help establish realistic goals and review progress over time.

How quickly will I see changes?

Progress is assessed over time. Follow-up visits help identify whether the plan is effective, manageable, and appropriate to continue.

Will I need medication long term?

Some patients benefit from ongoing treatment. The decision depends on benefits, side effects, and health needs.

Will the weight return if I stop medication?

Weight regain can occur after stopping. Discuss a maintenance plan with your provider before changing treatment.

Will I need laboratory testing?

Testing is based on your medical history, symptoms, available results, and proposed treatment. Bring recent results so your provider can determine whether additional testing is needed.

How often are follow-up appointments?

Your provider recommends a schedule based on your treatment and monitoring needs. Follow-ups are used to review progress, address concerns, and determine whether adjustments are appropriate.

Can I complete visits virtually?

Your initial Truvé weight-management visit is in person. Select follow-ups may be available virtually for established patients when clinically appropriate. You must be physically located in Georgia during a virtual appointment.

Are medications and laboratory testing included?

Medications and laboratory testing are separate from your clinical visit. When prescribed, medications are sent to your pharmacy of choice. Laboratory orders are provided when indicated.

Insurance coverage for medications and laboratory testing depends on your plan and is not guaranteed. You remain responsible for charges not covered by insurance.

How do I get started?

Choose Medical Weight Management — Initial Visit when booking. Complete your intake forms before the appointment so your provider can review your information with you.

Medication Safety and Managing Side Effects

What side effects should I know about?

Side effects depend on the medication. With medicines such as tirzepatide, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal discomfort can occur. Your provider will review the information specific to your prescription.

Report persistent or troublesome symptoms. Do not increase your dose or combine weight-loss medications without guidance.

What can help with constipation?

Gradually increasing dietary fiber, drinking adequate fluids, and regular movement may help. Follow any fluid restrictions recommended for your health conditions.

If constipation continues, ask your provider about treatment options rather than repeatedly adding supplements or laxatives on your own.

When should I seek medical attention?

Seek prompt medical care for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, or inability to keep fluids down. Difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat requires emergency care.

Can I use weight-loss medication during pregnancy?

Weight-loss medications should not be used during pregnancy. Discuss pregnancy plans and breastfeeding before treatment. If you become pregnant while taking medication, contact your prescriber promptly.

Some medications require additional contraceptive precautions. Tirzepatide users taking oral hormonal contraception should switch to a nonoral method or add a barrier method for four weeks after starting and for four weeks after each dose increase.

Your medication-specific instructions and individualized care plan provide the guidance for your treatment.
